Boone County junior running back Shaun Alexander set a team record in rushing yards and Northern Kentucky record in scoring during the Rebels’ 63-13 victory over Campbell County on Friday, Oct. 29, 1993.
Alexander picked up 334 yards on 19 carries and scored seven touchdowns in the regular season finale for the Rebels, who finished first in the Class 4A district with the victory and made it to the state semifinals that season.
On the first play from scrimmage, Alexander scored on a 50-yard run to set the stage for his record-setting performance. His next four touchdown runs measuring 24, 39, 55 and 21 yards put Boone County ahead 33-6 at halftime.
In the third quarter, he rushed for 109 yards and two more touchdowns to set a pair of records before leaving the game.
Alexander still holds the local record in scoring with 42 points, a total he matched in a game the following season. The local record for most rushing yards in a game is now held by Jacob Chisholm of Ryle with 449 in 2017.
After his senior season, Alexander was named 1994 Mr. Kentucky Football. He was an All-American running back at the University of Alabama and named most valuable player in the NFL in 2005. He is among 50 players being considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.
