Calling all ghosts, goblins, princesses, pirates, and trick-or-treaters of all characters.
Trick-or-Treat 2024 in Boone County will be on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m., as in most areas around Northern Kentucky. The cities of Florence, Union, Walton, Covington, Newport and more have also set trick-or-treat hours from 6-8 p.m. on Halloween, as do most local cities and unincorporated areas. (Check your city’s website for trick-or-treat hours.)
Trick-or-treat is not a county-sponsored event, but the county and many of its cities set consistent hours to encourage safe trick-or-treating. Residents interested in handing out candy to costumed children — of all ages — are encouraged to turn on their porch lights during the designated time.
This Halloween tradition is enjoyed by many children, families and the young at heart. Homes feature oversized spiderwebs, friendly inflatables and (sometimes) spooky scenes to set the atmosphere. Children plan for months to find and create the perfect costume. Adults enjoy the night together as they chaperone children through neighborhoods.
Keep the holiday all treats and no tricks with these Halloween safety tips.
• Select costumes that are reflective, fit well and are flame resistant.
• Remind children to look both ways before crossing the street.
• Consider non-toxic makeup or hats instead of a mask that limits a child’s vision.
• Have children carry glow sticks or flashlights to improve visibility.
• Remind children of allergies or any treats that are off limits.
• Cross the street at street corners or crosswalks.
Drivers should also be aware of trick-or-treaters.
• Go slowly through neighborhoods with lots of trick-or-treaters.
• Turn on your headlights before the sun goes down.
• Watch for children between parked cars.
• Take extra time at intersections and stop signs to ensure the road is clear.
• Put your phone away and avoid other distractions while driving.
