Staff report
Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky will officially kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month on Tuesday with its annual Pinwheel Planting at the Kentucky State Capitol.
The event will bring together PCAK staff, board members, community partners, advocates, and state leaders to plant blue and silver pinwheels, the national symbol of child abuse prevention, as a visible commitment to protecting Kentucky’s children and strengthening families across the Commonwealth.

Participating will be Governor Andy Beshear, Jill Seyfred, Executive Director, Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, PCAK staff, board, and community partners .
The program will start at 11 a.m. and pinwheel planting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Kentucky State Capitol, outside the Capitol doors near the “English Garden.”
In case of inclement weather the program will be held in the Capitol’s Education Center — but the blue and silver pinwheel planting will remain in the English Garden.
April is designated as National Child Abuse Prevention Month in the United States, a time to raise awareness and inspire action to prevent child abuse and neglect. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the blue and silver pinwheel as the national symbol for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel represents the great childhood that every child deserves, and the role we each play in providing a loving and supportive environment for the children in our lives.
Across Kentucky, communities will plant blue and silver pinwheels, wear blue on April 1 for Wear Blue Day, and host events throughout the month to show their commitment to children and families.
