Southern Living, GoBankingRates name Bellevue ‘best town to retire’ in the South

Southern Living has named Bellevue as the best small town to retire in the South — and the No. 2 retirement spot in the nation. GoBankingRates so ranked Bellevue based on having a walkable downtown, a close-knit community and a low cost of living.

Its place on the banks of the Ohio River, in close proximity to both Cincinnati (with skyline views) and Newport add to its charm, according to the story. It location capitalizes on small town charm but puts it in reach of amenities of bigger cities.

Its 5,500-plus residents also find plenty to do and see in downtown Bellevue, says Southern Living. “The historic city offers colorful storefronts and restaurants, historic Italianate buildings, farmers’ markets, art shows, parades, and concerts.”

GOBankingRates gave the town a livability score of 92 out of 100. Average monthly rent is $1,528, putting Bellevue in the middle of towns that made the list. GOBankingRates assigned rankings based on the percentage of retirees, median household income, housing affordability, cost of living, crime rates, and overall livability.

Fort Wright and Southgate came in at No. 8 and No. 10, respectively, as best places to retire, according to Southern Living.
