Staff report
The Bellevue Police Department will be giving a special prom gift to Bellevue High School students this morning — and it comes with a special message. What they learn may save their lives.
Students from the high school will be welcomed to the Bellevue City Building for a program that will focus on responsible decision-making, with officers speaking to students about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving.

In partnership with the Bellevue-Dayton Fire Department and the Kentucky Department of Highway Safety, students will also hear current statistics related to teen driver safety.
The program is headed by Officer Michael Brown of the Bellevue Police Department.
Students will participate in interactive activities, including impaired driving simulation goggles and pedal karts provided by the Kentucky Department of Highway Safety. Vehicles used in the mock crash will be supplied by Fenders Towing Service.
A highlight of the event will be a live mock crash scenario, including a “Ghost Out” presentation featuring student volunteers. The demonstration will simulate the real-life impact of impaired and distracted driving, offering students a compelling visual message.
Following the demonstration, Mayor Charlie Cleves, city administration and Police Chief Jon McClain will host a cookout for students, with food provided by Kroger. The program concludes after the cookout.
The event is designed to promote awareness, encourage safe choices and help ensure a safe and memorable prom experience for all students.
