Taking part in the ceremonial groundbreaking will be Judge-Executive Steve Pendery, county commissioners, public safety leadership, and the project team, including Larry Brandstetter of Brandstetter Carroll and Justin Conger of Conger Construction Group.

Honor guard presentation by Campbell County Police Department, National Anthem by Josh Wilhoit of the police department, and live bagpipes performed by (retired) Major Joshua Quinn of the Boone County Sheriff’s office. The Butler County Sheriff’s office will do an aerial flyover.

The new Campbell County Public Safety Building will bring four public safety agencies under one roof for the first time:

• Campbell County Police Department, currently operating out of an outdated facility on Constable Drive;
• Office of Emergency Management, the team responsible for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters, protecting lives, property, and essential services; it has also been operating out of the Constable Drive facility;
• Consolidated Dispatch Center, the 911 call center that routes police, fire, and EMS ccalls for the county, currently operating out of the Newport City Building; and
• Coroner’s Office, currently renting space in a funeral home for storage and laboratory work.

The new facility will end the county’s reliance on makeshift and off-site spaces for critical public safety work, so first responders can focus on what matters most — protecting the people of Campbell County.

The new building will be located on 17 acres and is 58,000 square feet, roughly the size of a large grocery store and warehouse combined. The county purchased three separate properties at their independently assessed values, for a total of $1.6 million for the land.

Construction is expected to start in the summer and to be completed within 18-24 months.

There will be architectural renderings of the new facility on display at the event, as well as public safety vehicles.
