Kenton County Fiscal Court approved a contract this week with Prus Construction to serve as construction manager for the new Kenton County Park in Independence, marking another major milestone as the transformational project moves closer to construction.
As construction manager, Prus Construction will work alongside the County’s project team, including owner’s representative J.S. Held and design firms Bayer Becker and Human Nature, to guide pre-construction planning, budgeting and construction coordination for the highly anticipated greenspace.

Once complete, the new park will represent the most significant single investment ever made in Kenton County’s park system, creating a vibrant community hub for recreation, gathering and outdoor exploration.
“This project continues to move full steam ahead, and onboarding the Prus Construction team is another exciting step forward,” Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said. “We’ve assembled a tremendous team to help bring this vision to life, and we’re looking forward to breaking ground later this year.
“While the park will feature new amenities and spaces for residents to gather and play, its heart will always remain the natural beauty of this property. Our goal is to preserve this incredible greenspace and give Kenton County residents full access to all nature has to offer for generations to come.”
Spanning 225 acres, the new park will be the largest of Kenton County’s seven parks.
Located adjacent to Lincoln Ridge Park in Independence, the property opened for passive recreation in 2020 and has already become a cherished natural space for residents.
The future park will build on that foundation to create space that balances recreation, community gathering and environmental stewardship while preserving the natural character of the land.
