Holmes High School to celebrate grand opening of new Archive Room showcasing its history

Holmes High School, the first public high school in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is inviting the community to celebrate its rich legacy with the grand opening of its new Archive Room on Monday, 4-6 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 4 p.m.

Founded in 1853 as Covington High School before relocating to the historic Holmesdale mansion —known by many as “the Castle” — Holmes High School has a distinguished history of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and generations of accomplished alumni.

The new Archive Room brings that history to life through a unique collection of memorabilia and artifacts, including items from Daniel Henry Holmes’ Castle, photographs spanning more than 120 years, athletic trophies, vintage uniforms, yearbooks, and grade books dating back to 1891.

Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase extra Holmes High School yearbooks, available for $20-$45 (cash only) while supplies last.

The community is encouraged to attend this special event, explore the school’s remarkable history, reconnect with fellow alumni, and celebrate the enduring legacy of Holmes High School.

Join the celebration as the school preserves the past, celebrates the present, and shares its story for generations to come.
