The Kentucky Arts Council is now accepting nominations for the 2027-2028 Kentucky Poet Laureate, a literary ambassador appointed by the Governor to promote the power of the written word across the Commonwealth.

Nomination will be accepted through Aug. 3.
Selected for a two-year term through a public nomination process coordinated by the Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Poet Laureate represents the literary traditions of Kentucky. While the title includes the word “poet,” the position is interpreted broadly to include writers whose accomplishments span any literary form.
Nominations may be submitted by individuals or organizations within or outside Kentucky. Nominees will be considered based on:
• A published body of written work informed by living in Kentucky
• Critical acclaim demonstrating a high degree of creativity
• The ability to promote and champion the literary arts throughout the commonwealth
The Kentucky Poet Laureate is inducted on Kentucky Writers’ Day in odd-numbered years and serves a two-year term.
