Drivers traveling along Bristow Road will notice a significant traffic shift as work continues on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) Mt. Zion Road/Bristow Road improvement project.

On June 19, traffic was shifted to the new pavement between Beechgrove Drive and the intersection of Mt. Zion Road and Bristow Road. Motorists should expect periodic single-lane closures while flaggers direct traffic safely through the work zone.

The new traffic configuration is expected to remain in place through the completion of the project.

The roadway improvements come as the southern Kenton County area continues to experience residential and commercial growth, increasing traffic volumes along the Bristow Road and Mt. Zion Road corridor.

The project is designed to improve safety, increase roadway capacity, and address long-standing drainage concerns for area residents and motorists.

While traffic travels on the newly paved section, contractors will continue work on storm sewer piping, roadway excavation and stabilization, and waterline improvements.

Project improvements include:

• Widening KY 1303 (Bristow Road) from two lanes to four lanes between Timber Lane near Beechgrove Elementary School and KY 536.
• Construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of KY 536 and KY 1303.
• Installation of multi-use paths on both sides of the roadway throughout the project corridor.
• New curb, gutter, storm sewer, and drainage infrastructure designed to reduce flooding issues in the area.

According to KYTC, the drainage improvements will help alleviate flooding problems that have affected portions of the corridor during periods of heavy rainfall.

The KY 536/KY 1303 improvement project is being managed by KYTC District 6, which oversees transportation projects throughout Northern Kentucky and surrounding counties. District 6 coordinates all phases of road development, from planning and design to right-of-way purchasing to administering construction contracts.

Drivers traveling through the construction zone are encouraged to follow these safety precautions:

• Reduce speed.
• Increase following distance.
• Obey flaggers and traffic control devices.
• Stay alert for construction crews and equipment.

Construction is expected to be completed in late summer 2026. Once finished, the project will provide improved traffic flow, enhanced pedestrian connectivity, and safer travel conditions for residents, students, and visitors traveling through one of Kenton County’s busiest and fastest-growing areas.
