Beechwood High School counselor Megan Minton has been named this year’s Kentucky Community and Technical College System Pathfinder of the Year.
In making the announcement, KCTCS said Minton is helping students see what is possible after graduation by connecting them with pathways that lead to success in college, careers and beyond.

“I believe in the meaning behind this work and feel honored to be doing it,” Minton said. “This is an affirmation that we’re moving the right direction and being responsive to the needs of our world. That’s invaluable and being connected to this in any way is hugely motivating.”
Since Minton began working at Beechwood, part of the Beechwood Independent Schools five years ago, the number of students taking dual credit courses has increased by 64%, from 111 in 2021 to 182 this past year. Increasing dual credit participation helps more students earn college credit while still in high school, helps reduce the overall cost of college and helps them gain earlier access to hands-on, workforce-aligned programs that will give them a head start on a credential, degree or transfer pathway towards a bachelor’s degree.
“Not only is the cost savings something that is life-changing for them,” Minton pointed out, “but getting the chance to experience postsecondary education as a high school student is something that reveals to them how limitless their opportunities for growth and learning are.”
Reducing barriers by walking students through the college process such as enrollment, financial aid, scholarships and course selection, Minton also helps students redirect their course and change their career without shame to ensure they are on the right path to a brighter future.
“Megan Minton represents the very best of what the KCTCS Pathfinder Award is designed to celebrate: educators who see the potential in every student and help them find the pathway that fits their goals,” said KCTCS President Ryan Quarles. “By encouraging students to explore dual credit, career-connected programs and affordable postsecondary options, Megan is helping them build confidence, save money and get a head start on their futures.”
Minton’s recognition includes a $1,000 scholarship for a Beechwood student to attend any of the 16 colleges within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
