Stewart Iron Works is a nationally recognized leader in commercial and ornamental metalwork, known for its custom metal packages and dedication to high-quality, hand-crafted production. The company’s origins date back to 1862, when Richard Clayborne Stewart Sr. relocated the Stewart Iron Fence Company from Cleveland, Ohio, to nearby Covington, Kentucky. Driven by rapid growth and increasing demand for specialized fencing, the company evolved into the largest ornamental fence manufacturer in the world and the largest producer of ornamental iron furniture in the United States.

Stewart Iron Works’ craftsmanship can be found across the country. Each piece is marked with a distinctive physical seal, appearing in notable locations such as benches in Central Park, fixtures at the U.S. Capitol, the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion, and even within Alcatraz.

A defining characteristic of Stewart Iron Works is its commitment to hand-crafted production. Bill Morgan, Vice President of Operations, notes in the city’s business spotlight video that this approach allows the company to excel in custom fabrication and large-scale commercial projects, setting it apart from competitors in the industry.

In 2019, the Huseman Group acquired Stewart Iron Works and relocated its operations to Erlanger, where the company continues to grow and contribute to the city’s thriving business community.

Nick Eads, director of economic development for the City of Erlanger, praised the company’s legacy and impact in Northern Kentucky and across the country.

“From iconic national landmarks to thriving communities in Northern Kentucky, Stewart Iron Works has been instrumental in shaping our landscape by blending a historic tradition of craftsmanship with modern innovation,” Eads said.
