Construction will begin Sept. 14 on Kenton County’s new park in Independence, transforming the former Fox Run Golf Course into a 225-acre destination for recreation, adventure and outdoor exploration.
To protect the safety of the public and construction crews, the park will be fully closed for the duration of construction. The project will involve large-scale equipment, heavy machinery and active work zones throughout the property, making full closure necessary to safely complete the work.
Signage will be placed at the park entrance ahead of the closure to alert visitors the park will soon be inaccessible to the public.
The County will host a groundbreaking celebration for the new civic space on Monday, Sept. 21, at 9:30 a.m.
The park will be organized around three natural ridges.
• The first ridge will focus on civic activities and feature an enlarged fishing pond, dog park, outdoor fitness area, destination playground and interactive water feature, shelters, restrooms, observation tower and opportunities to walk through the tree canopies.
• The second ridge emphasizes the spirit of adventure, with a bike park that includes skills course, bike playground and pump track, climbing wall, nature play, shelters and restrooms and a planned Go Ape facility with elevated obstacles and treetop experiences.
• The final ridge focuses on exploration building on the park’s extensive trail network that will be developed to cater to hikers and mountain bikers, while accommodating a wide range of abilities.
While approximately 70% of the 225-acre property will remain untouched by construction, the entire park will remain closed for the duration of construction out of an abundance of caution.
J.S. Held is serving as the owner’s representative, Bayer Becker and Human Nature are leading design efforts and Prus Construction is overseeing construction.
Additional updates on construction progress and the future opening of the park will be shared as the project moves forward. The park is anticipated to open in late summer 2028.
