Beginning today, the Kentucky Department of Revenue will pause some of their operations for seven business days as they update the tax system and the MyTaxes portal.

From Aug. 5-13, staff will have limited access to the system and will not be able to process returns or provide case status updates.

During this period, they will be implementing system updates that affect these business tax types: Rental Rideshare, Sports Wagering, Electric Vehicle Power, Insurance, Health Care Provider and Ground Ambulance Provider.

Overall, the modernization of the tax system is expected to better serve taxpayers and strengthen the state’s long term operations. The goals of the new system:

• Improving accuracy and reducing errors, helping ensure tax information is processed correctly.

• Providing more transparency, giving taxpayers clearer, more up to date information.

• Enhancing security, using modern tools to protect sensitive data.

• Streamlining processes, making it easier for taxpayers to file, pay, and manage their accounts online.

• Supporting future modernization, allowing the Department to adapt as tax laws are changed and technologies evolve.

For individual income taxpayers, the updates will not affect how Kentucky residents file and pay their Individual Income Taxes. If you don’t have any pending tax-related tasks, no action is needed at this time.

KY DOR describes this transition as part of their commitment to delivering a more reliable, secure, and user-friendly experience for taxpayers across Kentucky.

They add that they intend to resume normal operations on August 14, under the improved system.
