Transitions, Inc. will host ‘Walk the Road to Recovery’ on Friday, September 11 from 5-7 p.m. at Covington Plaza. The evening event is built on Transitions’ singular message that, Recovery is possible, and no one has to walk the road alone.
Under the banner “We Recover Together: An Unfiltered Conversation,” the evening will offer a candid discussion led by Dave Manheim, national creator and host of the Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction podcast. He will be joined by content creator and local entrepreneur Gabbie Egan. Their conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Now in its fourth year, the Transitions Recovery event is held each September during National Recovery Month, following International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31 – to bring community members, advocates, and public officials together to reduce stigma and demonstrate that treatment works, and Recovery is possible. This year’s event moves to Covington Plaza for an evening designed to feel welcoming, hopeful, and community-driven, with free food, entertainment, and a Recovery celebration for all.
“Every year this event grows, but this year feels different. We’re bringing two powerful voices to Covington: by talking about addiction and Recovery with honesty and humor, Dave and Gabbie have both reached millions, making Recovery feel possible for so many people who are still struggling. That’s the heart of our theme ‘We Recover Together’ – we are hoping to have a real, unfiltered conversation that meets people where they are. Recovery happens in community, and we can’t wait to see our community show up for one another at Covington Plaza,” said Jim Beiting, CEO, Transitions, Inc.
The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with food, socializing and live music. Programming will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a welcome from the Transitions team and remarks from local government officials – including Covington Mayor Ron Washington and Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval – after which Manheim and Egan will take the stage for the featured conversation at 6 p.m. Guests are invited to stay afterward to continue celebrating and connect with one another.
Known for blending raw humor with honest storytelling, Manheim has hosted Dopey since 2016. In the years since, he has built it into one of the most widely heard Recovery shows in the country, helping decrease the stigma that keeps people from seeking help.
Egan is a veteran, small business owner, and content creator touching millions of people with her videos. She has spoken openly about her own sobriety journey, making Recovery more visible to a broader and younger audience.
