Spend an evening with “the modern-day Huckleberry Finn” at Adventure Crew’s signature fall event. The nonprofit will host keynote speaker Neal Moore at its annual Summits & Horizons fundraiser, set for Thursday, October 15 at Memorial Hall.
“Join us to be inspired by stories of wilderness, community and connection, all steeped in optimism,” said Miriam Wise, director of support and engagement for Adventure Crew. “We can’t wait for Neal Moore and Adventure Crew teens to share their stories with you.”
In December 2021, Moore completed a 22-month solo canoe journey across America. His expedition covered 7,500 miles and took 675 days. People he’d met in cities and towns along the way traveled from all over the country to watch him arrive at the Statue of Liberty in his red Old Town boat, which he’d paddled from the Pacific.
Major media outlets around the world also took note of his accomplishment, with CNN, The Times of London and even the Mark Twain Museum dubbing him “the modern-day Huckleberry Finn.” Topps Allen & Ginter honored Moore with a pop culture “Explorer & Writer” baseball card.
Moore is no stranger to storytelling, having written two non-fiction books – “Down the Mississippi” and “Homelands: A Memoir” – as well as numerous news articles. Adventure Crew is thrilled to bring him to Cincinnati to share his stories during Summits & Horizons.
The evening begins with a 5 p.m. early admission for “optimist” ticket holders ($100). Social hour for those with general admission tickets ($70) begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program, which features Adventure Crew teens, Neal Moore’s keynote and a paddle raise auction, begins at 6:30 p.m. Event sponsorships are available.
