The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies announced the Northern Kentucky Water District is one of six utility winners of the 2026 Sustainable Water Utility Management Award.
The Sustainable Water Utility Management Award recognizes water systems committed to achieving a balance of innovative and successful efforts in economic, social, and environmental areas. This award is the third step in AMWA’s awards program, following the Gold and Platinum Awards. NKWD won the Gold Award in 2005 and the Platinum Award in 2008.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our entire team and the strong leadership of our Board of Commissioners, whose commitment to long-term planning and responsible stewardship helps guide NKWD’s work,” said NKWD President/CEO and AMWA Vice President Lindsey Rechtin. “Through our Vision 2030 Strategic Plan, we have made intentional investments in our people, infrastructure and communities, from extending public water service to rural households to completing our largest year of water main design and inspection in a decade. These investments reflect our commitment to providing safe, reliable and affordable drinking water today while building a stronger, more sustainable future for the communities we serve for generations to come.”

This year, AMWA will present six systems with the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award, one system with the Platinum Award for Utility Excellence, and three systems with the Environmental Justice and Equity Award. AMWA will present the awards at its 2026 Executive Management Conference on October 27.
