The riverbank boys are returning to Northern Kentucky as the Seckatary Hawkins Fair & Square Club holds its 2026 national gathering at Behringer-Crawford Museum on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The “Big Meeting at the Rivers” welcomes longtime club members, collectors, families and anyone interested in discovering the mystery and adventure stories of Seckatary Hawkins.
Written by Northern Kentucky author Robert Franc Schulkers, the stories followed Seckatary Hawkins and his friends as they solved mysteries and shared adventures from their Kentucky riverbank clubhouse. The series began appearing in newspapers in 1918 and later expanded to books, comic strips and nationally broadcast radio programs. During the height of their popularity in the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s, the stories were read by children across the country, and millions joined Seckatary Hawkins Fair & Square clubs.
The stories combined mystery and adventure with lessons about friendship, perseverance, fair play and helping others. Today, an active community of readers continues to collect the books, share memories and introduce Seckatary Hawkins to new generations.
The Sept. 26 gathering will begin with a meet-and-greet and continental breakfast, followed by a virtual presentation from club captain Randy Schulkers, grandson of Robert F. Schulkers. Guests may also take part in a live radio-play reading of “Herman the Fiddler,” newly written by Dan Kindel, complete with audience participation and sound effects.
The day will also include:
• A catered luncheon with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options
• A swap-and-sell table featuring Seckatary Hawkins books and memorabilia
• Presentations on “The Ghost of Lake Tapaho” and the Schulkers house
• Riverbank songs and music performed by harpist Diane Schneider, great-niece of Robert F. Schulkers
• Time to explore Behringer-Crawford Museum and its Seckatary Hawkins exhibits
• The unveiling of the newly published Stoner’s Boy comic book in graphic-novel form
• Prizes, surprises and plenty of Seckatary Hawkins nostalgia
Registration is $49 per person and includes the day’s activities, continental breakfast and catered lunch. Advance registration is required.
Behringer-Crawford Museum is located at 1600 Montague Road in Covington’s Devou Park.
