It was a tough week last Friday for Northern Kentucky teams who dropped six of eight high school football games against downstate opponents.

But this weekend’s three-day Thursday/Friday/Saturday fall break schedule is highlighted by a pair of longtime River City rivalries with Dayton heading across town to Bellevue for “The Battle for the Paddle” and Newport Central Catholic hosting Newport for the Firemen’s Bell Trophy at the Thoroughbreds’ new hilltop palace above Carothers Road.

Both games kick off Friday at 7.
