Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders to also serve as temporary Campbell County Attorney

Attorney General Russell Coleman has designated Rob Sanders — Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 16th Judicial Circuit in Kenton County — to temporarily serve as Special Commonwealth’s Attorney for Campbell County.

The announcement came as the current Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Zimmerman resigned.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney is the locally elected felony prosecutor, responsible for working with law enforcement and public officials to protect Kentucky families from the most serious crimes. Attorney General Coleman works closely with Kentucky’s 57 Commonwealth’s Attorneys and provides support and training to help assist with their public safety mission. According to state law, when a vacancy occurs in a Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the Attorney General may designate a temporary replacement until a gubernatorial appointment or the next election.

“Rob Sanders has dedicated his professional career to serving the people of Northern Kentucky. I’m grateful he has agreed to take on additional responsibilities and step into such a critical role,” said Attorney General Coleman. “This Office is just too important to leave vacant, and the people of Campbell County should rest easy knowing they have a team of incredible prosecutors working to keep them safe.”

Sanders has served as the Commonwealth’s Attorney since 2007. He is responsible for the prosecution of all felony offenses in Kenton County, the third most populated county in Kentucky with more than 165,000 residents.

During his tenure as Kenton Commonwealth’s Attorney, Rob has served as President, Vice President and Secretary of the Kentucky Commonwealth’s Attorneys Association. He currently serves as the co-legislative liaison for the organization, which means he often spends time in Frankfort representing prosecutors and providing advice to legislators and staffers regarding the formation of or changes to criminal-justice laws and policies affecting the entire state.

“We’re very proud of the justice we provide through community partnerships in Kenton County and working closely with law enforcement. We’re happy to share our services with Campbell County until their new Commonwealth’s Attorney is appointed or elected. I appreciate General Coleman’s confidence in my office and me,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Sanders.
