Members of the Northern Kentucky Water District, Kenton County Fiscal Court, and Kentucky Legislature gathered Tuesday to celebrate the $4.8 million water main extension project, known as Subdistrict O.

“With the addition of four miles of new water mains, 61 additional households will gain access to NKWD’s public water system,” said Lindsey Rechtin, President/CEO of the Northern Kentucky Water District. “As a result of projects like this, more than 99 percent of households in Kenton County now have access to public water service which is significantly higher than the state average.”

The project is in partnership with Kenton County Fiscal Court and is funded through Kenton County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants, Cleaner Water Program grants through the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority appropriated by the Kentucky Legislature, and local resources.

“With ARPA funding, we had an opportunity to move impactful, but difficult to fund, projects forward. Subdistrict O is a perfect example of that,” Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said. “These are meaningful infrastructure improvements that will benefit residents for decades to come.”

Project construction began in November 2025 and was completed ahead of schedule earlier this year. The portions of the roads included in the project are:

• Scenic Ridge Drive (Off Pelly Road)
• Steep Creek (Ryland Country Club/KY 177 to #3704 at bridge)
• Mann Road (Steep Creek to #11290)
• Fiskburg Road (Goshorn to Alexander Road)
• Elliot Road (KY 17 to Pendleton County Line)
• Gene Street (Off Walton Nicholson Road)
• Highwater Road (River Heights Lane to #1873)
• Alexander Road (Fiskburg Road to St. Mary’s Road)

“We are grateful for the continued partnership and investment from the Kenton County Fiscal Court and the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority in expanding access to public water service for local residents,” said Lindsey Rechtin. “Projects like this would not be possible without their support, along with the ongoing commitment of the Kentucky Legislature.”
