St. Henry eighth-grader Reese Anthony made a quantum leap among returning golfers in the girls state championship tournament that ended Saturday at Bowling Green Country Club.

After placing 69th in her state tournament debut last year, Anthony finished 10th with a 152 total on Saturday. She carded a 3-over 75 in the first round and 5-over 77 in the final round of the season finale.

Anthony won the Region 7 tournament and tied for fourth in a sectional qualifier to make it back to the state tournament.

The points she earned during her impressive post-season run may result in all-state honors.

The state tournament medalist was Louisville Sacred Heart senior Keira Yun with a 139 total (70, 69) that was four strokes better than Frederick Douglass sophomore Willa Borough.

Ryle senior Elizabeth Dickson tied for 12th with a 155 (73, 82). The two-round totals for Northern Kentucky’s other individual state qualifiers were 165 (82, 83) by Notre Dame senior Maria Penaranda and 212 (102, 110) by Ryle senior Lacey Wilson.

Conner finished ninth in the team standings with a 786 total. The Cougars’ team leader was junior Sofia Seals at 172 (86, 86), followed by juniors Bella White 196 (98, 98) and Eva Fay 206 (102, 104) and eighth-grader Cam Broering 212 (97, 115). The Cougars’ fifth golfer that did not count in the team total was junior Evie Maurits 234 (114, 120).

Lexington Christian Academy finished on top in the nine-team girls standings with a 29-over 605 total. The Eagles were state runner-up last year.
