It’s been an exceptional fall for Brossart athletic teams. The small school in Alexandria won region championships in three unclassified sports — boys soccer, girls soccer and volleyball — and the boys cross country team added Class 1A state and region titles.

On Saturday, Brossart won the Class 1A boys state meet by an 85-106 margin over Highlands Latin at Kentucky Horse Park. The Mustangs were the only local team that came home with a state championship trophy. The second-place teams included Beechwood in Class 1A girls, Highlands in Class 2A girls and Ryle in Class 3A girls.

Brossart taking the Class 1A boys state championship was a significant comeback for the program. The Mustangs placed 10th last year and did not qualify for the 2024 state meet after winning the 2023 state title.

There were no winning runners from Northern Kentucky. St. Henry junior Logan Vaniglia finished second in Class 2A boys. Brossart teammates Henry Kramer and Adam Torvin placed third and fourth in Class 1A boys.

The fastest times by local runners came in the Class 3A boys race. Campbell County senior Grant Holbrook finished fifth in 15:35, followed by Conner junior Ethan Mann (15:36) and Covington Catholic senior Braden Franxman (15:37).

Highlands eighth-grader Morgan Ripley placed fifth in Class 2A girls in 18:21. The local girls with the next best times were Ryle teammates Stella Carpenter (18:30) and Lilah Elliott (18:51) in Class 3A.

The Highlands boys placed third in Class 2A and the Covington Catholic boys placed fourth in Class 3A. The Colonels won the Class 2A boys state title in 2024 and placed second last year before moving up to the large school class this season.
