We have set a date for our second adult field trip to Frankfort. As I’ve stated in previous columns, our spring field trip was so successful there were more people wanting to go than we could accommodate. We already have over 35 people signed up for this field trip so get your names in early.
Because of the success of the prior field trip, I decided not to reinvent the wheel. It’s pretty simple: Pack a lunch and be at St. Timothy Parish in Union at 8 a.m. Oct. 6. We will leave promptly at 8:30 a.m.

If you would like to participate, and I hope you will, contact Lisa Smith at 502-564-8100 ext. 617, to make your reservation. Let her know if you are a driver or if you need a ride. This past spring we had a perfect mix of drivers and riders, and it worked out just fine.
Our first stop will be the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion – always a tour favorite. We will then proceed to the state Capitol where Justice Michelle M. Keller, a native of Northern Kentucky, will show us the Kentucky Supreme Court chambers. Then it is off to the newly refurbished Senate and House chambers were Sen. President Robert Stivers II, R-Manchester, and Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, will address us – their schedules permitting.
After a picnic lunch on the Capitol grounds, we will proceed to the Kentucky History Center to learn about state’s rich history. This is a departure from the previous field trip when we toured the Old State Capitol. Then it is back to Boone County where you will arrive in time for dinner.
Don’t forget to make your reservations early.
Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, represents Boone County.
