NKU to host summer May We Help arts, music camp with Cincinnati Adaptive Music & Arts Project

Northern Kentucky University will be the site of a summer program designed to expand access to creative expression for children with physical disabilites.

May We Help has partnered with the Cincinnati Adaptive Music and Arts Project to launch the Cincinnati Adaptive Arts & Music Camp July 19-24 at the university.  Registration for the 2026 camp is open through May 1.

The Cincinnati Adaptive Arts & Music Camp combines specialized engineering with adaptive instruction and professional arts education to create a customized experience where every child can explore music and visual arts.

“This partnership represents what’s possible when innovation and creativity align around a shared mission,” said Brianne Wilkerson, Program Director, May We Help. “We’re removing barriers so kids can discover their voice, build confidence and experience the joy of art.”

The camp provides children with physical disabilities individualized support through a team that includes instructors, therapists, volunteer engineers and families. Together, they plan to develop custom tools and techniques that make instruments and artistic mediums accessible.

Campers can choose music or visual arts tracks, with instruction in disciplines including strings, brass, woodwinds, guitar and piano, as well as ceramics and painting.

In addition to instruction, campers will participate in traditional camp activities, such as games, group experiences and performances, creating a balance of skill-building and fun.

Each participant will leave with a personalized Music Adaptation Plan (MAP) or Art Adaptation Plan (AAP), along with prototype adaptive equipment to support continued growth beyond camp.

The Cincinnati Adaptive Arts & Music Camp is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the region’s primary source for arts funding.

The program is also supported by the Adaptive Music and Arts Project and reflects a broader effort to expand inclusive arts education across the region.
