The Kentucky Community and Technical College System’s 16 colleges and System Office will observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., day by sponsoring or participating in events across the state. In addition, KCTCS is celebrating its fifth annual statewide Super Sunday initiative on Sunday, Feb. 22.
Super Sunday is a recruitment event to promote higher education for African-American and Latino students. It also highlights the role of parental involvement and early preparation in facilitating successful access to college and program completion. Each KCTCS college is partnering with African-American and Latino churches for Super Sunday events. Following the worship service, KCTCS representatives are hosting college fairs to provide information on admissions, degree programs, financial aid, transfer opportunities and more.
“Over the last five years, KCTCS has partnered with more than 150 churches and shared the ‘Yes You Can Go To College message’ with more than 33,000 individuals,” said KCTCS President-elect Jay Box. “This community-based outreach effort is part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion.”
A full list of Super Sunday event locations can be found at super-sunday.org. Each event is open to the public, and people of all ages are invited to attend. Research shows students begin contemplating college as early as elementary school, so students from K-12, their parents and families are the key audience for Super Sunday.
