NKYHatesHeroin second annual 5K Walk/Run set for June 6 at Simon Kenton HS


The 2nd annual NKYHatesHeroin.Com 5K Walk/Run will be held on the campus of Simon Kenton High School, 11132 Madison Pk., Independence, on June 6. Race start time will be 8:30 a.m.

“This annual walk/run is just one way that NKYHatesHeroin.Com is able to provide support and aid to those in our communities who are affected by addiction and for us to continue to partner with our communities through awareness, resources and education for prevention,” says Chris Stegner, NKYHatesHeroin.Com board chair.

The race starts and ends at the high school. Pre-registration of $25 by 5 p.m. June 2 (includes shirt) is encouraged and can be completed online or by downloading a mail-in form at nkyhatesheroin.com/5k. In-person registration will be accepted at Crossroads Church, 828 Heights Blvd., Florence, during packet pick-up (includes shirt while supplies last) 1 – 8 p.m. June 4, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 5, and on race day. Race-day registration for $30 (includes shirt while supplies last) will be 7 – 8:20 a.m. at Simon Kenton High School.

Awards will be given for first, second and third places for both male and female runners and walkers.

In less than two years, NKY Hates Heroin’s fundraising efforts have benefited Transitions, Inc., NKYPAR: People Advocating Recovery, P.I.E.R.: Personal Involvement Empowering Recovery, Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home, Healthy Newborn House, and more. The organization has also purchased and helped distribute Naloxone/Narcan kits (a medication that reverses a heroin overdose), and has also provided monetary support to assist individuals to enter rehab or sober-living houses and to afford medical check-ups.
