The Florence Freedom tossed a combined shutout on Sunday to beat the Frontier Greys by a score of 5-0 and move one game ahead of the Rockford Aviators for the final Frontier League playoff spot.
Rockford lost to Normal on Sunday. Six games remain in the regular season.
Patrick McGrath (2-2) tossed five innings of shutout ball while only allowing one hit. Tony Vocca took over and fired two scoreless frames. Then Ethan Gibbons and Ed Kohout took care of the eight and ninth innings respectively in the victory.

Sam Eberle was the offensive star of the game as he launched a two-run home run in the first and another fifth. In the first Zac Mitchell doubled and with two away Eberle went the opposite way to put Florence up 2-0.
Daniel Fraga singled in the third and Austin Newell doubled him home to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the fifth, Mitchell singled but Newell hit into a fielder’s choice. That’s when Eberle crushed his second two-run shot of the night, a blast off the left field scoreboard to make it 5-0 in favor of the Freedom.
The win clinches the Freedom’s fifth consecutive series win. They have an off day on Monday before welcoming the Windy City ThunderBolts to town on Tuesday for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and it’s NKY Hates Heroin Night. Cody Gray (3-2, 4.04 ERA) takes the mound for Florence.

In Saturday’s game, Florence couldn’t hold on to three separate leads in a 6-3 loss to the Frontier Greys.
Florence grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first as Zac Mitchell doubled and moved to third on an error by left fielder Shane Brown. Austin Newell drove home Mitchell with a sacrifice fly.
The score remained 1-0 until the fourth when Scott Carcaise hit a solo home run off Freedom starter Zach Wendorf.
Isaac Wenrich gave the Freedom their second lead of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, his third home run of the season since joining the Freedom.
But the Greys rallied to tie the game in the top of the fifth on a Julio Rodriguez sacrifice fly.
Florence took their third lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Josh Henderson got things started with a double. One out later Steve Carrillo drew a walk and Daniel Fraga singled home Henderson to put Florence up 3-2. The Freedom had a chance to add to the lead as they loaded the bases with two outs but reliever Chris Rice (4-2) struck out Sam Eberle to end the inning.
Seth Harvey (3-4) replaced Wendorf in the sixth and allowed three runs to take the loss. With one out Michael Antonio double. Harvey proceeded to walk back-to-back hitters to load the bases. Zach Tanner delivered a two-RBI single to put the Greys up 4-3. They added another run on a Rodriguez RBI single to make it 5-3.
A Brandon Tierney solo shot in the seventh off Austin Delmotte provided the final run of the game, making it 6-3 in favor of the Greys.
