Covington Latin School has always encouraged students to pursue extracurricular interests, even if that means starting a new club to explore their passion.
This year, students have taken it a step further and their interest has sparked the addition of a new sport at CLS – Archery.
Freshman Christian Schuetter has previous experience in the sport, and his family was able to connect Latin School with a pair of outstanding coaches from the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, Robin Bonavantura and Mikael Soto.
Robin and Mikael will be leading a group of nearly 20 students, grades seven through twelve, through practice three days a week.
Many students are learning the sport for the first time, but the coaches are impressed with how quickly their skills are progressing.
“Though a competition schedule has not yet been set, the options are limited only by the number of opportunities in the area,” says Coach Mikael. Students will be able to compete with other area schools as well as in a number of state, and even national, tournaments as part of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®).
