Gov. Bevin participates in National Prayer Breakfast; event includes more than 4,000 government leaders

Gov. Matt Bevin today joined President Donald Trump and federal, state and local government leaders from across the country in Washington, D.C. to participate in the 65th annual National Prayer Breakfast.

“The history of America has been positively affected by elected leaders who have prayed earnestly for wisdom from God,” said Gov. Bevin. “Prayer is powerful, and it was encouraging today to be with so many men and women in Washington D.C. as we prayed for God’s blessing on the United States of America. I am excited to see how our nation will be strengthened as we fervently seek Divine guidance in our individual and collective lives. United we stand, divided we fall.”

First held during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the National Prayer Breakfast brings together more than 4,000 individuals from over 120 countries. Participants join in a bipartisan manner to pray for God’s blessing upon our nation and its leaders.

Organizers note that the gathering was established “to specifically seek the Lord’s guidance and strength as well as to reaffirm our faith and to renew the dedication of our nation and ourselves to God and His purposes.” Every U.S. president since President Eisenhower has participated in the National Prayer Breakfast.

Kentuckians will have an opportunity to take part in a similar event next week in the Commonwealth.

The public is invited to join Gov. Bevin and First Lady Glenna Bevin for the 51st annual Governor’s Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 7 at the Frankfort Convention Center. This year’s event will feature Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day and Luke Hancock of the 2013 NCAA national champion University of Louisville men’s basketball team.
