When the Lloyd football coaching staff watches the videotape of their team’s 44-16 win over Brossart on Friday in Erlanger, the third quarter is undoubtedly going to be everybody’s favorite part of the replay.

During that 12-minute span, the Juggernauts scored 25 straight points by playing well in every phase of the game. The defense recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and didn’t allow a first down on Brossart’s next two possessions. The offense scored off both turnovers and after both punts to open up a 44-7 lead that activated a running clock.

It was the fourth consecutive win for Lloyd (4-1) and the first loss of the season for Brossart (4-1).

“One thing I really want to highlight is how we’re starting to figure out complementary football, so the second half is a great example,” said Lloyd coach Kyle Niederman. “Our kids are really figuring out it’s such a different dynamic when we’re all playing together. And I thought we did a good job of that early in the second half.”

Lloyd had reserve players on the field in the fourth quarter when Brossart scored on a safety, 51-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Holtz to Isaac Amin and extra-point kick to trim the final margin.

That long scoring pass enabled the Mustangs to finish with 203 total yards (157 passing, 46 rushing). Lloyd’s final total was a season-high 413 yards (219 passing, 194 rushing) with five players getting touchdowns in the victory.

“One thing we do have is some pretty good athletes,” Niederman said. “So our job coaching-wise is to get them in a position where they can be successful, and I thought we did a good job of that tonight.”

Lloyd’s scoring leaders were senior wide receivers Tyler Copeland and Isaiah Sebastian with two touchdowns each.

In the third quarter, Copeland caught a 20-yard TD pass from junior quarterback Kaleb Evans to get the team’s 25-0 scoring run started.

On their next offensive series, the Juggernauts ran a double-reverse with the ball going back to Evans. The quarterback saw Sebastian streaking down field and threw a perfect pass that resulted in a 68-yard scoring play.

“We just played the same as we did all week in practice,” Evans said. “We played as a team and got the job done.”

Sebastian had seven receptions for 140 yards to go along with his 40-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. In five games, he has a team-high total of 56 points with five rushing and four receiving touchdowns.

“You can’t ask for a better time in life than football season,” Sebastian said. “I just get to go out there and have fun, playing the game I love.”

Lloyd’s final two touchdowns came on a 10-yard run by running back Yurli Collins and 3-yard run by KyRon Carter, a 6-foot, 300-pound senior who usually plays on the offensive line.

After the game, Brossart’s first-year head coach Adam Kozerski had to deal with a loss for the first time after his team’s 4-0 start.

“We’ve been preaching to our guys all week this was going to be a tough game against a tough team,” Kozerski said. “Some things happened that obviously nobody wants to happen. Nobody went our there expecting to fumble the ball or to miss a tackle. It happens and we’ve got to go watch the (video) tape and learn from it.”
