Disabled American Veterans to host ‘stand down’ to assist with medical needs and more

DAV (Disabled American Veterans) will host a stand down to assist more than 200 veterans experiencing homelessness in the Tri-State area with partners from the Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. It will be held at DAV National Headquarters on Dolwick Drive in Erlanger Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

During the stand down, veterans can access services and resources that address their immediate and long-term needs, including free flu shots, hot meals, haircuts, legal assistance, social services, benefits support, employment counseling, health care screenings and care bags.

Studies show several factors can lead to veteran homelessness from unemployment, separation, substance abuse and mental health issues. DAV, the VA and community partners are committed to eliminating barriers so at-risk veterans and those experiencing homelessness can break the cycle.

“We want all veterans to know that even in the hard times—especially during the hard times—we stand with them and will connect to the programs and resources that can make a difference in their lives,” said DAV National Voluntary Services Director John Kleindienst. “They’ve sacrificed for their country; it’s our obligation to make sure they have a chance to lead a fulfilling life with respect and dignity. We’re grateful for our partners at the VA and in the community who help make so many resources available to those veterans we serve.”

Sponsors making this event possible include First Nation Group, Veteran Debt Assistance, 4imprint, Bombas, Kroger, and Jason Frost.

All veterans facing hardship or homelessness are invited to attend. To learn more about DAV and its services available to veterans, please visit DAV.org.
