The Rotary Club of Florence has named recipients of the 2026 Rotary Club of Florence Teacher of the Year Awards, recognizing four educators who exemplify Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self.”
The 2026 honorees are:

• Jenny Aylor, Stephens Elementary School
• Daniel Barnhill, Boone County High School
• Chris Flowers, St. Paul Catholic School
• Krishna Tanner, Goodridge Elementary School
Each year, the Rotary Club of Florence recognizes teachers who inspire students, earn the respect and admiration of families and colleagues, and actively contribute to both their schools and the broader Boone County community. The awards celebrate educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching while shaping the future through their leadership and service. Candidates are selected from Boone County public and private schools who exemplify dedication, professionalism, and the ability to inspire learning and engagement in their students.
Jenny Aylor of Stephens Elementary School is recognized for her dedication to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for young students. Her colleagues and families describe her as an educator who fosters curiosity, confidence, and meaningful connections in the classroom.
Daniel Barnhill of Boone County High School is honored for his commitment to student success and his ability to inspire learners through engaging instruction and mentorship. His leadership within the school community and dedication to helping students reach their goals make him a valued educator.
Chris Flowers, who teaches sixth through eighth grade Social Studies and Religion at St. Paul Catholic School, is recognized for his passion for teaching and his commitment to service.In addition to his classroom work, Flowers has been actively involved in community service, including participation with the Fraternal Order of Police, Mary Rose Mission, coaching the St. Paul School Academic Team, and volunteering at the St. Paul Fish Fry.
Krishna Tanner of Goodridge Elementary School, is known for her compassion, professionalism, and commitment to helping every child feel supported and valued. Tanner serves her community through involvement with Burlington Baptist Church and as sponsor of the Cardinal Cares Club, demonstrating her dedication to supporting children both in and beyond the classroom.
Rotary leaders emphasized that honoring educators is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen the community. As Rotary Club of Florence Sergeant-at-Arms and former Boone County Schools Board Member Shawn Carroll noted, teachers help students “get on the path to success.”
The Rotary Club of Florence is inviting the community to celebrate the arardees at a special luncheon honoring their achievements on Monday, April 20, at Florence Nature Event Center, 7200 Nature Park Drive in Florence. Florence Rotary is requesting all who plan to attend to RSVP in advance to plan for adequate seating and food.
A lunch buffet will be served at 11:45 a.m, with the meeting beginning at noon. The cost is $13 per person, payable by cash or check. A processing charge will be added for credit card payments. An RSVP form is available online.
