Kenton County residents will have the opportunity to responsibly dispose of unwanted household items during the annual Kenton County Spring Clean Up, scheduled for April 25-26.
The disposal drive provides residents with a convenient way to clear out unwanted items while helping keep neighborhoods clean and reducing illegal dumping. Proof of Kenton County residency is required to participate.
Disposal locations and hours:
Kenton County Public Works, located at 420 Independence Station Road in Independence
• Saturday, April 25: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Sunday, April 26: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Tires and appliances are only accepted at this location.
Piner Elementary School, located at 2845 Piner Ridge Road in Morning View
• Saturday, April 25: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Sunday, April 26: 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Tires and appliances are not accepted at this location.
Accepted items
Residents may dispose of a variety of household materials, including:
• Appliances ($25 fee for Freon-containing appliances)
• Mattresses and box springs (limit two per household)
• Yard debris
• Electronics (anything with a power cord), including TVs and monitors
• Vehicle batteries and rechargeable batteries
• Scrap metal
• Tires (limit eight per household; $3 per additional tire)
• Oil and gasoline (must be removed from lawn equipment)
Residents with more than eight tires can attend one of Kentucky’s free Waste Tire Collection Events held across the state.
Items not accepted
The following items will not be accepted during the Spring Clean Up:
• Hazardous materials
• Pesticides
• Paint or stains
• Liquid waste
• Fire extinguishers
• Tanks, cylinders, or propane tanks
• Oil and antifreeze
• Fluorescent bulbs
• Shingles
• Concrete, brick, or dirt
• Junk vehicles (including boats)
• U-Hauls or large loads of household furniture from clean-outs
Businesses, including auto, construction, or junk removal companies, will not be permitted to participate.
Safety and participation guidelines
For safety and litter prevention:
• Cover all open loads with a tarp and secure loose items.
• Participants must unload their own vehicles.
• Kenton County Public Works reserves the right to refuse any items brought for disposal.
