Letter to the Editor:
Is it time to take the keys from Grandpa before he kills someone?
I want to begin with a summation of a personal story. My mother was a high school teacher who was certified to teach Spanish, French, Biology, and Earth Science. She was also a talented artist whose work I donated to museums, the Hamilton County Ohio Court House, and to various individuals.
Sadly, she descended into dementia (at first slowly, and after my father died, shockingly rapidly). She came under the influence of professional and convicted criminals. They convinced her to throw her remaining progeny into the garbage can, in favor of giving these miscreants their inheritance. It was a life-forming experience for the Crush family.

This is a problem that faces many families, of all races and ethnicities, and do not want to give the impression that I think the Crush family’s horrible experience is more important than that of other families.
It is often a truism of dementia that the descent includes a loss of vocabulary, manners, decline of ability to think clearly, suggestibility, outbursts, and paranoia.
I voted for Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024. While I, like my late father, had substantive reservations about various aspects of his persona, I think he has done a great deal to move our Nation in the right direction again. We should be cognizant of his accomplishments in these regards.
Unfortunately, in the last year or so, Trump has been befriending his former enemies to the detriment of his supporters. History teaches that this is never wise. It’s crystal-clear that Trump made some kind of macabre Faustian deal.
At his age (~80), this is a very bad warning sign. It will get worse – not better. The starting of more foreign wars; with threats to start yet more, the bizarre attacks against his supporters for questioning his betrayals; the profanity-laden, genocidal, Easter tweet, and so much more. He is now listening to types who do not have the interests of ordinary Americans in mind.
We cannot risk war with Russia, mainland China, and much of the world. We will additionally become divorced from our allies abroad. This confluence of factors has the real possibility of creating a Greater Depression, and WW3.
It’s time to take the keys from Grandpa before he kills someone.
