Boone County Public Library and the Boone County Public Library Foundation have received two Kentucky Arts Council Grants to bring engaging arts experiences to Boone County residents of all ages.
The grants will support three professional artists who will present free performances and hands-on programs that celebrate creativity, cultural understanding and community connection.
Through the Kentucky Touring Grant 2027 awarded to the Boone County Public Library Foundation, the Library’s popular Summer Concert Series will feature Appalatin, a regionally recognized band that blends Appalachian folk traditions with Latin American music. The annual concert series attracts families, adults and seniors from across Boone County, providing free access to high-quality live performances that bring the community together.
The Foundation’s grant will also support a performance by Shuling Fister, an acclaimed Chinese classical and folk dancer. Following the performance, attendees will be invited to participate in an interactive fan dance workshop, offering an engaging opportunity to experience Chinese culture firsthand.
A second Kentucky Arts Council – Creative Chapters Library Program Grant, awarded to Boone County Public Library, will bring teaching artist Dan Burkey to the Walton Branch for a six-session creative residency serving adults ages 55 and older who are experiencing isolation or memory loss. Using personal storytelling and improvisational theater, participants will create original stories inspired by their own experiences and share them during a final showcase for family and friends.
“We are grateful to the Kentucky Arts Council for investing in arts programming that enriches the lives of our community,” said Dawna Bach, Public Service Director. “These grants allow us to offer meaningful cultural experiences that bring people together, celebrate diverse traditions and inspire creativity.”
Dates and registration information for these free programs will be announced at a later date on the Library’s website and social media channels.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports Boone County Public Library and the Boone County Public Library Foundation through the 2027 Touring Grant program with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
