The Lloyd Juggernauts stayed undefeated Friday night with a 38-20 win over Campbell County that extended their regular-season victory streak to 15 games dating back to last year.
Coach Kyle Niederman said the team’s continued success comes from its commitment to playing the game the right way.
“Winning never gets old, but one thing we talk about in our program a lot is we want to win the right way,” Niederman said. “We want to block. We want to tackle. We don’t just want to throw the ball to a fast kid for a touchdown. We want to play defense, and we want to play complementary football.”
Lloyd (5-0) opened the game with a jolt on the defensive side of the ball. Junior Marja Petterson jumped a pass and returned it for a pick-six. From that moment on, Lloyd controlled the game.
Junior running back Lincoln Tomlinson continued his strong season with a three touchdown performance, helping Lloyd build and maintain its lead.
“All credit to the O-line,” Tomlinson said. “Our other running back was out, so I had to step up tonight.”
Lloyd has scored 38, 32, 48 and 43 points in their last four wins. They’re averaging more than 300 yards per game, but Niederman said the offense still has room to grow.
“It was good,” he said of the win over Campbell County. “We had some yards, dominated the line of scrimmage, blocked well. But we’ve got to throw the ball better, and we had a turnover. We scored well tonight — putting up 38 points against a 6A team — but there are some things we can get better at.”
Tomlinson said the team is working on improving every day and he’s one of the players leading the way.
“He is a great kid,” Niederman said. “He does it every day on the practice field and in the weight room, and of course that starts the momentum so that on Friday night you can put up some good stats. He is no doubt one of the hearts of our team.”
