Northern Kentucky University and the Commonwealth of Kentucky officially broke ground on the new Northern Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office on the university campus.
Gov. Andy Beshear, elected officials, and NKU representatives took part in the groundbreaking on Friday afternoon.
The project will transform NKU’s long vacant former Highland Heights Civic Center into a vital public resource for families and law enforcement agencies across the region.
The facility will also include a Kentucky State Police Crime lab.
It will bring a permanent medical examiner’s office back to Northern Kentucky for the first time since 2017 and create potential research opportunities for NKY faculty and students alongside the agencies on campus.
Completion of the project is expected in early 2028.
