The Covington Business Council has announced the creation of a new award named in honor of a community icon, the late Katie Meyer.
The Katie Meyer Spirit of Covington Award will be presented every year at the CBC Annual Dinner. This year’s award will be presented to the Meyer family at the November 12 th CBC Annual Dinner Powered by Partnership, Presented by St. Elizabeth Healthcare at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center.
Moving forward, individuals who possess characteristics embodying Katie’s ebullient personality will be recognized. These traits include generosity, fearlessness, authenticity, kindness, compassion and bearing an advocate’s nature.
CBC Executive Director Pat Frew said that soon after Katie’s passing in March after her courageous battle against colorectal cancer, he and the entire CBC board wanted to find a way to honor Katie’s memory on a regular basis.
“Katie represented the best Covington had to offer in the way she sought to serve others and create a welcoming environment for all. She worked tirelessly leading Renaissance Covington, while collaborating as a CBC board member. Renaissance was recognized as the National Main Street program of the year during one of her final years at the helm. She was both accommodating and accomplished,” Frew added. After leaving Renaissance, Katie worked for Cincinnati Bell and Alta Fiber helping business districts across the region access high speed date and most recently served as CEO of the Downtown Dayton (OH) Partnership.
Katie’s wife, Dr. Bonnie Meyer said, “Katie would be honored to receive this recognition, and it is our honor to accept it on her behalf. Of all of Katie’s work, she was most passionate about Covington’s downtown renaissance, and she dedicated her life to making this city what it is today. You can’t walk the streets of Covington without seeing her impact. Katie’s legacy will live on in the work we all carry on in her memory. We are grateful to the Covington Business Council for this honor.”
The CBC Annual Dinner is one of the highlights of the NKY business calendar each year with more than 500 people expected for this year’s event. In addition to the Katie Meyer Spirit of Covington Award, Tom Munninghoff of Munninghoff Lange will receive the CBC Founder Award with Steve Tracy of AtWork Personnel will receive the Ascent Award.
