Conner advanced to the final four of the 9th Region volleyball tournament for the third time in five years with a 3-0 win over Dixie Heights on Monday at Dayton High School.
The Cougars will take a 26-12 record into their semifinal match against Beechwood (34-3) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Conner lost two matches against Beechwood in the regular season.
Two of Conner’s team leaders are senior setter Shylyn Koerber and junior hitter Charlotte Patton, who have surpassed the 500 mark in assists and kills this season.
Beechwood knocked off Newport Central Catholic, 3-0, in the opening match of the region tournament Monday. The Tigers are one win away from reaching the 9th Region final for the first time since 2003 when the current playoff format was established.
Brossart defeated Nicholas County, 3-0, in the first round of the 10th Region tournament on Monday. The Mustangs (34-3) have not lost to a region opponent this season and hope to continue that streak against Paris in a semifinal match at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The 8th Region semifinals will be played Tuesday with Simon Kenton taking on defending champion North Oldham at 6 p.m. in a rematch between last year’s region finalists. This will be the first time the teams faced each other this season.
First round matches in the boys and girls state soccer tournaments are set for 7 p.m. Tuesday. The matchups are Brossart at Ryle in boys and Brossart at Highlands in girls.
