Music@BCM is back April 16 through August 13. Break out the folding chairs (optional) and bring your family and friends (mandatory) for 12 evenings of pure delight, with warm breezes, cold drinks, food … and… music from a variety of genres. Blues. Zydeco. Salsa. Brass band. Latin. Bluegrass. Jazz. Irish. Classic rock. They are all in this season’s lineup. They even have a night featuring the entire Blue Wisp Big Band with John Von Ohlen.
There will be music of interest for most musical tastes, and, at the same time, they recognize new regional talent and preserve their own musical heritage. Part of the draw is the size and enthusiasm of the audience, which has grown steadily in the 20+ years of the series.
They will launch their 2015 season next Thursday, April 16, with “Wine ‘n’ Spring,” featuring The Burning Caravan, a French gypsy jazz group. The Burning Caravan, is a Cincinnati-based band formed in 2008 by Paul Gibby and Janie Yates. They perform a mix of Django Rheinhardt and standard “Gypsy Jazz” tunes such as “Minor Swing” and “J’Attendrai,” and including American jazz and swing standards like “Rose Room,” and Louis Armstrong’s “A Kiss to Build a Dream On.”
This first family-friendly concert will take place indoors at BCM, 1600 Montague Road in Covington’s Devou Park. Doors open with food to purchase at 6 p.m., with the performance running from 7 to 9 p.m. Next month, weather cooperating, the series will move outdoors to the amphitheater, with concerts on May 21 and each Thursday evening June 4-25 and July 9-August 13. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Food and beverages are available for purchase.
